Jamieson and Smith

Jamieson and Smith Shetland Wool Brokers Ltd. is based in the Shetland islands, the most northerly of the Scottish islands, almost as close to the Faroe islands as they are to Scotland. The Shetland islands are famous for their sheep and wool, renowned around the world for its fineness and warmth.

The company first began in the 1930's when it was founded by the Smith family in Scalloway on the east coast of Shetland. It has occupied its current premises overlooking Lerwick harbour since the 1960's. The aim of the company is to enhance the profile of Shetland wool, in order to raise the price of the fleeces for local producers. Jamieson and Smith purchases around 80% of the wool produced on the islands, and therefore plays a very important part in sustaining Shetland's fragile crofting industry, as well as its textiles industry and heritage. To ensure the future of the local wool industry, the company works closely with key organisations, collaborates with new designers and is dedicated to textile innovation and experimentation.

The company is currently run by a staff of six Shetlanders and all profits received from the sale of Real Shetland Wool products comes back into the Shetland economy. All yarns carry the Three Sheep logo, which signifies that the product is made from 100% Real Shetland Wool from pure Shetland sheep that are born and bred on the islands.
