Fair Isle Weekend by Mary Jane Mucklestone
Fair Isle Weekend takes you on an exciting trip to Fair Isle, the most remote inhabited island in the United Kingdom. The island is famous for its bird life, and of course its traditional colourwork knitting. During her many trips to Fair Isle, Mary Jane has been fascinated and inspired by the island's rich textile traditions. Now, she has created a gorgeous collection of designs which she would take with her on a weekend trip to Shetland, when a carry-on bag is all you take with you. All patterns are designed using Shetland wool, and you will also meet Fair Isle native Vivian Ross-Smith and her best friend, designer Ella Gordon, each of whom contribute an essay to the book.
"So I invite you to join us, this small band of travelling friends, sharing a little glimpe of the isle from my outsider's perspective. I offer you a small collection in my own style of Fair Isle knitting, which I hope honours the tradition, even though my work isn't especially traditional."
